Waterfall Photographs from the Fingerlakes
The Fingerlakes Region of Upstate New York is a paradise for those who love the excitement, beauty, and ultimate peace that the rushing cascade of a waterfall brings. There is no real substitute for the thrill of hiking up to a waterfall full in its spring torrent - or the calm peacefulness of a late summer walk to see the ebbing flow which reveals the beauty of the rocks behind.
The delight I feel when hiking along a steep trail listening intently to hear the first strains of the song of the falls comes through in the photographs I take. There are times when I have waited for hours to capture my favorite shimmering light quality. During the wait I get to enjoy the forest music, the wildlife, and the peace that only comes in the quiet of solitude. If "my light" doesn't appear that day, I consider it a perfect excuse to return on another day. With "work" like this, one doesn't need a vacation. Each season the waterfalls have their special beauty, from the early spring runoff through lazy summer months and into fall and winter.
